Debian-Project - Teams
Back in the old days when we had only one machine donated and only 60 developers were working on the distribution, things were easy. We discussed them on the (one and only) developers list and continued to work.
Debian has grown a lot since then. Public recognition has been increased, the number of donated machines (different architectures) has grown, there are more than 800 developers and more than 5000 binary packages, we also serve more than 150 different mailing lists.
In order to get things done more failsafe I have not only taken over some tasks but also created teams to work on certain things. Some of these teams are still present while others (e.g. new-maintainer) have changed a lot.
The following needs an update.
Debian Task Force
I'm not only maintaining some packages, but also working on several topics behind the doors. A very important task is to follow debian-private and debian-policy some low-volume but highly important lists.
- Administrator of Debian machines
- Together with some others I'm maintaining our servers va and master. Our generic address is debian-admin@debian.org.
- Listmaster
- Together with some others developers I'm maintaining the mailing lists on our listserver. Our generic address is listmaster@debian.org.
- New-Maintainer
- Together with some other people I'm processing new-maintainer submissions and make sure that they know what debian is all about before they start joining. Our generic address is new-maintainer@debian.org.
- Security
- Together with some other people I'm listening to some well-known security lists and advise maintainers to fix their packages if we're affected. Our generic address is security@debian.org.
- packages.debian.org
- I maintain the virtual mail server packages.debian.org. You can send mail to each packages' maintainer through <pkg name>@packages.debian.org. You can reach me at joey@packages.debian.org.
- The Debian PowerPC
- In my home LAN I'm hosting powerpc.debian.org which is a fast powerpc machine dedicated to develop Debian GNU/Linux on. Together with some other developer we're pushing the development of Debian GNU/Linux on PowerPC. I'm reachable as joey@tervola.infodrom.north.de or joey@powerpc.debian.org .
- The Debian Amiga
- In my home LAN I'm hosting m68k.debian.org which is a slow Amiga3000 machine dedicated to development of Debian GNU/Linux on m68k. I'm reachable as joey@kullervo.infodrom.north.de or joey@m68k.debian.org .
- The #Debian Channel on IRC
- I'm a well-known member of the channel #Debian on irc.debian.org which is hosted by LISC. Many maintainers meet there regularily. I'm also maintaining the list of frequent users.
- Public Relations
- I'm somewhat familiar with some journalistic techniques and therefore normally actively working on PR stuff like press releases. I'm also an author of several Linux and Debian related articles that were published in various german computer magazines.
