sysklogd

2007-07-29: New version 1.5 released

It may sound totally unlikely for some people but sysklogd version 1.5 has been released after several years of development. This version has been intensively improved and has incorporated the work of quite a log developers.

The most important changes are sketched below. For the full list please refer to the changelog.

  • Several bugfixes and related corrections
  • Stabilise starup of klogd and syslogd
  • Make klogd reconnect to a temporarily inavailable syslogd
  • Make syslogd more tolerant against errors
  • Improvements to manpages
  • Corrected handling of log messages
  • Pass UTF-8 characters through
  • Deactivated console log changes (use sysctl or '-c' instead)
  • Added back /usr/src/linux/System.map as fall-back location
  • Symbol parser rewritten
  • Rewrite of the oops module for 2.6
  • Improved symbol lookup
  • Prevent named pipes from becoming the controlling tty
  • Don't block on the network socket in case of packet loss
  • Don't crash when filesize limit is reached
  • Fix spurious hanging in connection with futex and NPTL
